A young Tongan-Australian girl begins to realize that she is different from her single, white mother and her family; a chance encounter with a peer offers her a chance to reconnect with her Tongan roots. A film that shows how a sense of unease and not belonging can turn into curiosity about rediscovering one's cultural roots.
Annelise Hickey is an Australian filmmaker with numerous music videos to her credit for Australia's biggest artists. She won the 2021 ARIA Award for best music video. In 2018 she wrote and directed award-winning “50 Shades of No.” Of Tongan and Irish descent, Annelise has always been drawn to stories about tales of cultural belonging. After years spent telling other people's stories, she now seeks to tell her own, those of her community in Pasifika.
